Scholarships

The Foundation Scholarship Program was established to provide scholarships to students of the Phoenix Union High School District who are pursuing a post-secondary education at a university, community college, or trade school in Arizona. (Click “Scholarships available” below to read more.)

Phoenix Union Foundation Scholarships
The Foundation Scholarships are four-year renewable scholarships funded by the Foundation’s fundraising events.

Invest in the Best Scholarships
The Invest in the Best Scholarships are supported through donations by the Phoenix Union High School District staff to help achieve the District’s mission of “Preparing every student for success in college, career and life.”

Giving Back Pays Forward Scholarships
The Giving Back Pays Forward Scholarships are supported by individuals, businesses, community organizations and District staff, family and friends to recognize loved ones, support students, and give back to their community. The concept of “giving back pays forward” is supported by these donors and is the message that they want to pass on to the Phoenix Union Foundation student scholars.

Innovation Grants

The Foundation awards Innovation Grants for programs that demonstrate innovative and effective ways to meet the needs of Phoenix Union High School District students and help them succeed in college, career and life.  Grants up to $500 (for a program benefiting individual school campus) or up to $1,500 (for a program applicable District-wide) are awarded to increase student interest and academic achievement in all curricula.  In past years, the Foundation has awarded Innovation Grants to programs that range from performance arts to math and science.

2013-2014 SCHOOL YEAR

Experience PUHSD Expo

$1,500 (supporting a District-wide student recruiting and marketing event to showcase the many opportunities available to thousands of future high school students, which took place January 25, 2014 at Phoenix College.)

Phoenix Union Visual Arts Program

$1,500 (recognizing the artistic talents of District students through their annual arts show).

Greater Phoenix Music Festival

$1,200 (showcasing the talents of student musicians through their annual concert, as well as expert instruction from experienced professionals).

Trevor Browne Thespian Society

$500 (providing students the opportunity to participate in all facets of putting together a theatrical production).

AP Mock Exam for Math

$400 (preparing students to take the advanced placement exam for math by staging a practice exam with guidance from an AP reader).

Desiderata Hiking Club

$400 (giving students an introduction to disciplines such as life sciences, geography and photography, as well as encouraging the importance of health).

 

2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR

Greater Phoenix Music Festival

$1,500 (showcasing the talents of student musicians through their annual concert, as well as expert instruction from experienced professionals).

AVID Transition to College Program

$1,000 (increasing participating in the AVID program and promote academic achievement and empower student success).

Amusement Park Physics

$500 (exposing students to physics by making measurements of velocities, forces, accelerations, and distances on attractions and rides at Castles & Coasters).

Thespians on Wheels

$500 (using the power of high-school theater to motivate academic performance and life choices).

Senior Portfolio Show at Cesar Chavez High School

$500 (exhibiting the achievements of high school seniors – as put together and defended by those seniors).

Self-Balancing People-Mover Project

$500 (introducing students to S.T.E.M. learning by building “Self-Balancing” two wheeled people movers that individuals can stand on and maneuver).

Falcon Robotics

$500 (toward designing, modeling, constructing robots and writing software for the robot, and competing against other schools).
