MINI-GRANTs
Designed to support teachers, student committees, administrators, and all District employees in their efforts to develop, improve or expand opportunities for high school students to learn and excel in education.

Awards support innovative programs that strive to increase interest and academic achievement in all curriculums.
Grants can be from $300 up to $1,500 each. Individual schools or programs can receive between $300 and $1,000. The maximum amount of $1,500 will be given to district-wide and multi-campus opportunities.

Camera Dolly & Track System for Camera Club
Grant - $750
Students will engage in guided experimentation by comparing static shots to controlled
movement shots, analyzing outcomes, and refining their techniques through peer
critique and instructor feedback. This mini-grant impacts 150 students/year.
Leah Eckroth - Camelback
Kiln Shelves Upgrade for Ceramics Arts
Grant - $500
Upgrading the kiln shelves will directly expand the students’ access to hands-on,
inquiry-based learning experiences that strengthen academic achievement, creativity,
and engagement across all grade levels. This mini-grant impacts 130 students/year.nts.
Monica Lourenco & Roxana Blackson - Camelback & Cactus Canyon
Reading Award Program
Grant - $700
Implementing an award program strengthens districtwide literacy by reinforcing
consistent reading habits and fostering a lifelong appreciation for reading. This
mini-grant impacts 143 students/year.
Moon Johnson - Maryvale
Meeting Behavior Matrix Incentives
Grant - $500
This program follows the PXU Behavior Matrix which promotes perseverance, encourages
problem-solving, recognizes integrity, celebrates communication, recognizes self-efficacy
and increases adaptability. This mini-grant impacts 2075 students/year.
Jackson MacDonald - Alhambra
Build Kits for Simple Machines
Grant - $500
This program will provide students with build kits for simple machines and working in
small groups, they will learn about the history of their chosen machine and discover how
engineering concepts are used. This mini-grant impacts 60 students/year.
Roxana Blackson - Cactus Canyon
Library Lunchtime – UNO Cards
Grant - $300
These card games help reduce stress, strengthen problem-solving and critical-thinking
skills, and boost attention and focus. They also encourage communication, teamwork,
and healthy social interaction. 800 students/weekly.
Carly Bacha - Academies at South Mountain
Life Skills Supplies- Upward & Onward Program
Grant - $400
This transition program will use these products to assist students in learning to clean,
organize, and maintain their lives. This mini-grant impacts 12 students/year.
Jeanine Aguila - CEE
Circle Forward/Restorative School Community
Grant - $600
This practical guide is designed to provide ready-to-use tools that help students and
staff build trust and improve communication while reducing conflict, suspensions and
increasing student engagement and a sense of belonging. This mini-grant impacts 600+
students/year.
Leticia Cazares - Phoenix Coding
AI & Society Book Club
Grant - $500
The AI & Society Reading Book Club will foster meaningful dialogue around artificial
intelligence, ethics, equity, and the future of technology, which are topics that deeply
impact both students’ education and the broader community. This mini-grant impacts
150 students/year.

Interactive Science Experiences
Grant - $600
Providing interactive science experiences will allow students with moderate to severe
cognitive and intellectual disabilities to actively engage with core concepts and
strengthen comprehension, reinforce academic skills, promote problem-solving and
functional application. This mini-grant impacts 50 students/year..
Stephon Bell - Bostrum
Futures Lab
Grant - $400
This after-school program will provide students facing significant barriers to academic
achievement and engagement with a safe, structured space to explore future pathways
while strengthening academic skills through hands-on projects, collaborative learning,
and student-driven inquiry. This mini-grant impacts 20 students/semester.r year.
Julia Perry - Bioscience
Microcentrifuge Systems
Grant - $500
Providing new microcentrifuges will allow students to fully participate in hands-on
experimentation, collaborate in lab teams, and collect and analyze real data. This
mini-grant impacts 400 students/year.
Shaunna ODowd - PXU City
Podcast Series Production
Grant - $600
This program develops skills in information literacy, narrative arching, critical thinking,
active listening, empathy and rapport building, verbal communication, writing for the
ear, and time management. This mini-grant impacts 30 students/year.
Clarence Brown - Fairfax
JROTC Leadership Camp
Grant - $300
This multi-day summer camp is designed to develop leadership, self-discipline, and
teamwork in cadets. This mini-grant impacts 10 students/camp.
Rebecca Rhodes - Trevor G. Browne
Indoor Salsa Garden
Grant - $350
This project will implement an indoor salsa garden to use with the constructed MIT
versions of the Mars Farm where students will actively investigate plant growth,
environmental variables, and biological systems. This mini-grant impacts 100
students/year.
Renata Geurtz - Academies at South Mountain
Social Games
Grant - $300
Based on daily observations in the library, students demonstrate increased cooperation,
positive peer interactions, and enjoyment while playing games. This mini-grant impacts
250 students/year.
Melody Khayduangta - Cactus Canyon
Rolling Whiteboards
Grant - $500
Rolling mobile whiteboards will significantly enhance the AVID inquiry-based tutorials by
creating a shared thinking space that makes student cognition visible and interactive.
This mini-grant impacts 60-90 students/year.

Mindful Garden Revitalization
Grant - $350
The Mindful Garden Revitalization Project aims to restore a designated space with 15
raised garden boxes so it can once again serve as a functional, calming, and educational
learning environment. This mini-grant impacts 50-120 students/year.

Peace Room
Grant - $300
The Peace Room will be a place where students can destress, recharge, and connect
with peers, fostering a positive school culture. This mini-grant impacts 181
students/year.
Joey Grether - Phoenix Coding
Makerspace Materials
Grant - $500
Makerspace engages students in hands-on projects that need a variety of materials. The
students are committed and accountable to the learning outcomes. This mini-grant
impacts 150 students/year.
David Kennedy - Carl Hayden
Drum Sets
Grant - $500
Playing drums is the epitome of hands-on learning—it is movement-based, physical,
engaging, and fun. Students who participate in music have better academic
achievement, develop positive self-esteem, connect and socialize with others, and form
a stronger community. This mini-grant impacts 100-200 students/year.
Luis Raul Castaneda Perea - North
3D Printer
Grant - $400
A 3D printer is needed to launch the Molecular Modeling Initiative, an innovative
hands-on program that transforms abstract chemical concepts into tangible,
student-manipulated learning tools. This mini-grant impacts 220 students/year.
Kathleen Vickers - Cactus Canyon
CHAMP Behavior Matrix
Grant - $450
This funding supports a collaborative effort to celebrate every type of victory related to
student engagement that inspires academic excellence using the CHAMP Behavior
Matrix. This mini-grant impacts 300 students/year.
